About
Where it all began
It all started with a group of Amateur Radio enthusiasts in the north west of England, having a simplex net using Yaesu System Fusion. Eventually this led to a repeater being set up in Fleetwood by Ray Green, M0RGV. NWFG was born and soon additional Repeaters and Gateways were added to enhance the network.
The system started to grow and spawned the now world famous Squirrel Net which runs every single day at 07:00 UK time.
Later on we thought it would be interesting to set up an AllStar network and NWAG was born. This snowballed quickly and is a very popular network today with plenty of regular chat and the totally informal Breakfast and Brunch Club happens most mornings and ends when it ends. All are welcome of course and firm friends have and are still being made.
This year (2026) we decided to look at a third network. Our networks to this point were specialised on the whole around a single mode, we thought it was time to create a multimode group. The reflector software had come a long way and the transcoding capabilities were advanced enough to experiment. Software was found that could achieve the goals we set. Great audio, seamless transcoding and capable of many modes.
The multimode group is still in its infancy but we are extremely proud of it.
